Brief Overview

Glycol is one of the most common alcohols used in commercial and industrial applications. From commercial solvents to end products, glycol is used in a wide range of industrial applications. Classified as a chemical diol, glycol is miscible with various solvents, ranging from water to chloroform. Crude glycol is mixture of DEG, TEG, and PEG, or DEG and MEG, or DEG, MEG and TEG. Crude Glycol is available commercialy in 2 grades, Heavy Crude Glycol and Light Crude Glycol. They are normally packed in ISO Tanks & Flexi bags containers.

Manufacturing process

Crude Glycol is produced from ethylene (ethene), via the intermediate ethylene oxide. Ethylene oxide reacts with water to produce glycol according to the chemical equation. This reaction can be catalyzed by either acids or bases, or can occur at neutral pH under elevated temperatures. The highest yields of glycol occur at acidic or neutral pH with a large excess of water. Under
these conditions, glycol yields of 90% can be achieved.

  •  Antifreeze and coolant, glycol helps keep the car engine from freezing in the winter and acts as a coolant to reduce overheating in the summer.
  • It used as industrial coolants for gas compressors, heating, ventilating, and air- conditioning systems, and ice skating rinks.
  • Glycol also is used as a raw material in the production of a wide range of products including polyester fibers for clothes, upholstery, carpet and pillows.
